Je relate ici les remarques et critiques que j’ai récemment adressées (Saucy 2023) à un article publié en janvier 2022 par deux chercheurs de l’Institut fédéral de recherches sur la forêt, la neige et le paysage (WSL) sur l’apiculture urbaine (Casanelles-Abella & Moretti 2022). Publié dans une revue affiliée à la très prestigieuse “Nature”, l’article original a fait grand bruit et a été soutenu par une communication très active du WSL sous forme d’une publication secondaire de vulgarisation dans les quatre langues nationales à l’intention du grand public.
Cette “mise en contexte” est problématique. En effet, la communication secondaire du WSL exagère et dramatise les conclusions que l’on peut raisonnablement tirer de l’article en question. Le WSL affirme en effet que ce que l’étude suggérait comme de possibles conséquences est en fait démontré, à savoir que l’apiculture urbaine, c’est-à-dire l’apiculture en ville, n’est pas durable, qu’elle menace potentiellement les abeilles sauvages, les abeilles mellifères elles-mêmes et la biodiversité en général. Ce qui en termes journalistiques peut se traduire par “Trop d’abeilles tuent l’abeille” comme le titrait le Journal du Jura du 19.02.2022.
Malheureusement, lorsqu’on y regarde de plus près, l’étude originale en question présente des erreurs et des faiblesses manifestes. De plus ses conclusions ne résistent pas à une analyse approfondie.
